The 2024 LDC Comprehensive Handbook on U.S. Latinos is an essential resource that offers an in-depth analysis of the multifaceted contributions of Latinos in the United States. This first-of-its-kind report by the Latino Donor Collaborative (LDC) and sponsored by Capital One, provides a holistic view of the U.S. Latino community, covering demographics, economic contributions, educational attainment, workforce participation, entrepreneurship, political engagement, and media representation.
As the largest minority group in the U.S., Latinos represent nearly 20% of the population and 25% of the youth under 18. The handbook highlights the critical role that U.S. Latinos play in shaping the nation’s future, contributing $3.2 trillion annually to the U.S. GDP. If the U.S. Latino economy were a standalone entity, it would be the fifth-largest economy in the world. The report underscores the rapid growth of Latino-owned businesses, which have increased by 57% over the past decade, compared to just 5% for non-Latino-owned businesses.
In addition to economic insights, the report delves into the rising educational achievements of Latinos, particularly in engineering and technology fields. From 2010 to 2021, the number of engineering degrees awarded to U.S. Latinos surged by 94.3%, highlighting their increasing influence in STEM fields. The handbook also explores the significant participation of Latinos in the U.S. labor force, where they account for 19% of the workforce and are expected to make up 78% of net new workers entering the labor market over the next decade.
The report also addresses the persistent disparities in media representation and corporate leadership, urging organizations and policymakers to recognize and address these gaps.
